Atelier Programs

The globally recognized Gage Academy of Art Atelier programs are designed for artists who intend to pursue profound mastery in painting, drawing, or sculpture disciplines under the guidance of internationally-renowned teaching artists.

Once in an Atelier, students will study and practice in an immersive, stimulating, and communal environment that fosters serious work ethic, the desire to hone and master their craft, and the means to embrace fine arts as a career.

Gage Academy of Art offers atelier programs dedicated to both the classical and modern tradition. By choosing a specific atelier, you dedicate yourself to study with that artist and their students for an academic year. Before choosing your atelier, research their program and determine which is the best fit for you. Once you have determined the atelier that best fits your preference, you can schedule a time to meet the instructor or apply for their program.

Requirements for admission are a motivation to learn and a willingness to undertake a long-term commitment of one to four years toward artistic development. Select ateliers do require portfolio submission. However, an advanced portfolio is not crucial. Instead, instructors are looking for artists with the self-discipline and devotion to thrive at Gage.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

This fall, Gage Academy of Art is excited to welcome back Atelier students into our facilities on Capitol Hill and in Georgetown.

In reopening the Atelier studios, Gage will be operating in accordance with the mandates and recommendations of local and national public health agencies to ensure the safety of the students. To this goal, Gage has fortified its investments in protective equipment and safety measures, and we are ready to revisit them as often as necessary as the situation evolves for the safety of our learning community.

In this perspective, prior to the start of the Academic year on September 14, all classrooms, atelier studios, and common areas will be deep cleaned and disinfected. After, Gage’s facility staff will perform regular deep cleaning at the end of each school day, making sure that high-contact areas and surfaces are disinfected. Gage Atelier students, instructors and models, will be asked to follow any mandate and recommendation of local and national public health agencies from the use of masks while on site to the respect of social distancing within the building.

Enrolled Atelier students will receive comprehensive and updated information on mandated safety measures throughout the quarter.
