A nationally-renowned school of art will display works by emerging artists in a thought-provoking exhibit of art created through meticulous study.

Gage Academy of Art, best known for their atelier approach (an old tradition, spanning back to the Renaissance of extended apprenticeships in the studios of master artists) will feature works by their Atelier and Studio Arts Intensive students, in a show opening on April 13.

VOLUME 1 — An exhibition by Gage Studio Arts Intensive and Atelier students

Volume 1 is the first of two exhibitions that will feature work from artists who have undergone yearlong multi-disciplinary training and work from instructor Geoff Flack’s Core Drawing AtelierGeorgetown Imaginative Realism Atelier, and instructor Kimberly Trowbridge’s Modernism and Color Atelier.

“I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to aid in the facilitation of this celebratory exhibition. In my time here, I have found that Gage artists as a whole work within a wide range of aesthetic and media-based approaches to visual narrative. This first round of artists is a perfect example of this. Each artist creates work that expresses their own unique voice, and I can’t wait to see how the pieces converse with one another!” said Curator John Freeman, who will collaborate with the artists to hang the special exhibit. “In an age when smart phones allow us to make an image in an instant, it’s amazing that much of this art has been a year in the making — and the outcomes are astounding!”

The exhibition, which will run April 13 through May 2, 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M., on the first, second, and third floors of Gage Academy is open to the public. An opening reception and artists meet-and-greet is scheduled for Friday, April 13, 6-8 PM. Selections of the artwork are for sale.

Gage Academy believes that artists are made, not born, and offers instruction in the principles of drawing, painting and sculpting, to all ages and skill levels. The school has two campuses in Capitol Hill and Georgetown and offers flexible class schedules with a variety of options ranging from weekend workshops to full-time study.
